TIme series and dynamic attractors

[Read the Article]
Interactions in complex systems are inherently difficult to study. Sugihara et al. introduce a method, based on nonlinear state space reconstruction, that is capable of distinguishing causation from correlation. This video demonstrates the relationship between time series and dynamic attractor manifolds. An example of a causally related complex system is the abundance of foxes, rabbits, and grasses over time, which the researchers demonstrate can be graphically represented as a nonlinear attractor manifold. For further information on identifying causality in complex systems read the article and other supplementary material.
